Power BI Migration Services
We move your reports, data models, and governance from Tableau, Qlik, Domo, ThoughtSpot, MicroStrategy, Cognos, SSRS, and other legacy BI tools into Power BI without losing a number or breaking a workflow. You keep running your current platform until the Power BI version is validated and signed off.
- Source-by-source assessment before anything moves
- Reconciled, number-for-number against the original
- Governance rebuilt in Microsoft Purview, not bolted on later
Every Migration Starts With a Different Tool, So We Start With Yours
There is no single Power BI migration. Moving off Tableau is a different job from decommissioning SSRS, and a SharePoint full of one-off Excel reports is different again. What stays constant is the goal: get your reporting into Power BI so it sits next to the Microsoft tools your teams already use, and stop paying for platforms that are aging out.
Below are the migrations we run most often. Pick the one closest to your situation, or talk to us if you are blending several at once.
Tableau to Power BI
Tableau workbooks, calculated fields, and published data sources rebuilt as Power BI semantic models. We map LOD expressions to DAX and keep your row-level security intact. Renewal coming up is the most common trigger here. Learn more about our Tableau to Power BI migration services.
Qlik to Power BI
Qlik Sense and QlikView environments require more than dashboard recreation. We translate associative data models, rebuild Qlik scripts with Power Query and DAX, and migrate security and reporting into Microsoft’s analytics ecosystem. Explore our Qlik to Power BI migration services.
Domo to Power BI
We migrate Domo dashboards, data pipelines, and business logic into governed Power BI datasets and reports. The result is a reporting environment that integrates naturally with Microsoft Fabric, Azure, and Microsoft 365 while reducing platform complexity. Learn more about our Domo to Power BI migration services.
ThoughtSpot to Power BI
ThoughtSpot migrations focus on preserving trusted analytics while expanding reporting flexibility. We rebuild search-driven dashboards, semantic models, and governance structures in Power BI, giving users self-service analytics alongside deeper integration with the Microsoft data platform. Learn more about our ThoughtSpot to Power BI migration services.
MicroStrategy to Power BI
MicroStrategy migrations begin with the semantic layer, translating enterprise metrics, hierarchies, and business logic into optimized Power BI data models before rebuilding reports and dashboards. This approach preserves reporting accuracy while modernizing the analytics platform. Learn more about our MicroStrategy to Power BI migration services.
SSRS to Power BI
Paginated SSRS reports are not a clean fit for interactive dashboards, so we sort them first: pixel-perfect operational reports move to Power BI Paginated Reports, while summary views become interactive pages. Subscriptions and schedules carry over.
Cognos to Power BI
Framework Manager models, business rules, and security rebuilt in Power BI’s tabular format. See our dedicated Cognos to Power BI migration page for the full process.
Legacy and Excel-based BI
QlikView, MicroStrategy, BusinessObjects, or a sprawl of Excel models with no single source of truth. We consolidate the logic, rebuild it on a governed model, and retire the spreadsheets people email around.
A Report Is the Last Thing We Migrate, Not the First
The mistake that sinks migration projects is treating them as a copy-paste of dashboards. A dashboard is just the visible layer. Underneath sits the part that takes real work: the data connections, the model, the calculation logic, and the rules that decide who sees what. Get those right and the visuals are quick. Skip them and you ship reports that show the wrong numbers.
Data Connections
Re-pointed through Power Query, on-premises data gateways, or Azure Data Factory, depending on whether the source is cloud or behind your firewall.
Data Models
Relationships and source schemas rebuilt as a Power BI semantic model, sized for performance instead of inherited as-is from the old tool.
Calculations and Metrics
Every measure translated to DAX and tested so a revenue figure in Power BI matches the same figure in the source to the cent.
Security and Access
Row-level security and user permissions mapped to your model and to workspace roles, so a regional manager still sees only their region.
Schedules and Subscriptions
Refresh schedules, email subscriptions, and bursting setups recreated so the Monday morning report still lands Monday morning.
Reports and Dashboards
Rebuilt last, with interactive filtering, drill-through, and mobile layouts, plus a chance to retire the reports nobody actually opens.
How We Run a Power BI Migration
Most migrations stall because nobody can say what happens next or who owns it. This five-phase framework removes that. You always know which reports are in flight, what has been validated, and what is left.
Discovery and Assessment
We inventory every report, data source, model, scheduled job, and permission in your current tool. Each item gets ranked by usage and complexity, so we migrate what people use and quietly retire the rest. The output is a scope document and a realistic timeline.
Target Architecture Design
Before anything moves, we design where it lands: how Power BI workspaces are organized by department or data domain, which sources connect through gateways, and how Fabric capacity or Premium is sized. This is where governance gets planned, not patched in later.
Data and Model Migration
The technical core. Source models are rebuilt as Power BI semantic models, connections re-established, and every calculation rewritten in DAX. We migrate in waves by business area rather than all at once, so risk stays contained.
Report Rebuild and Improvement
Flat tables become interactive pages with drill-through and mobile-ready layouts. We tune each report for refresh and render speed, so the new environment is measurably faster than the one you are leaving.
Validation, Governance, and Training
Every migrated report is reconciled against its original until the numbers match. Governance policies go live in Microsoft Purview, and we run hands-on training by user group. Only then do you decommission the legacy platform.
Power BI Migration Services Built on the Full Microsoft Stack
A migration is only worth doing if Power BI is set up to last. Because we work across Microsoft Fabric, Azure, and Power BI every day, we design the target environment for where your data estate is heading, not just to mirror the old reports. Our Power BI consulting team owns the build, and our Power BI managed services team can keep it healthy after go-live if you want to hand off operations.
As a Microsoft Fabric Featured Partner and Databricks Partner, we also handle the part most migration shops skip: connecting Power BI to a governed lakehouse so reports run on trusted data instead of brittle direct connections. If your platform itself needs work, we cover that through our data architecture services.
How long does a Power BI migration take?
It depends on the source environment and how many reports actually get used. A focused departmental migration can run six to ten weeks; an enterprise estate with hundreds of reports across several source tools runs in waves over several months. The discovery phase gives you a firm timeline before any commitment.
Will my numbers match after migrating to Power BI?
That is the point of the validation phase. Every migrated report is reconciled line by line against its original, and we do not call a report done until the figures match. Mismatches usually trace back to undocumented logic in the old tool, which we surface and confirm with you rather than guess at.
Can SSRS paginated reports move to Power BI?
Yes. Pixel-perfect SSRS reports move to Power BI Paginated Reports, which is built for exactly that use case, including subscriptions and export to PDF or Excel. Summary and analytical SSRS reports are usually better rebuilt as interactive Power BI pages, and we split your catalog accordingly during discovery.
Do we have to stop using our current BI tool during the migration?
No. The current platform stays live and authoritative until the Power BI version of each report is validated and signed off. We migrate in waves so teams switch over area by area, and you only decommission the old tool once everything it carried is confirmed in Power BI.
Can you migrate Tableau dashboards and calculated fields to Power BI?
Yes. Tableau workbooks, published data sources, and calculated fields are rebuilt as Power BI semantic models and DAX measures. Tableau’s LOD expressions and table calculations do not have one-to-one equivalents, so we translate the intent rather than the syntax and validate the result against the original.
What happens to our existing user permissions and security rules?
They are migrated, not rebuilt from memory. Row-level security and access rules from the source are mapped to Power BI’s model-level security and workspace roles, then tested with sample accounts so each user keeps exactly the access they had before.
